Dry Iron
This is the most traditional iron that is still very much like iron from the beginning of the popularization of electric energy. It heats up by turning electrical energy into thermal through resistance. You can adjust the temperature through some controls that exist at the tip of the iron, most of the time marked by the material that you will pass, since some types of materials ask for more heat than others to be disassembled. This entire process causes the iron base to remain at a certain constant temperature as you iron it on your clothes.
Steam iron
A more modern iron, steam iron has a compartment where you put water. The iron then heats this water so that it turns into steam; the steam, in turn, leaves through holes near the base of the iron heating and moistening the fabric. It is faster because the moisture helps to flush the clothes more, and it also leaves the clothes more soft.
Steam iron is more efficient and faster, burns less clothes and is lighter. It takes a little longer to warm up, but on the other hand the clothes get passed faster. Care must be taken when placing water in order not to allow it to leak into clothing, only steam must moisten clothing.
Steam iron is the best and most modern, and you can see that they are also easier to find as people prefer to buy it instead of dry iron. But there are still those who prefer dry iron because it finds it easier to handle and more resistant, and that the problem of moisture and softness is solved by spraying water on the clothes before ironing. It is best to try both, if possible; but if this is not feasible, bet on steam iron.
