Many private schools are interned in the countries of the British Imperial Commonwealth and the United States of America .  Pupils live almost all of their childhood and adolescence away from their parents, despite the fact that they have the possibility of returning home during holidays and vacations , or with a special authorization granted by school officials.

In some countries it is an institutions where children from rural areas come to receive food and housing while they are studying are also known as boarding schools. In some cases, the school and boarding school are part of the same institution and building; in other cases, they exist separately.

Advantages and disadvantages of boarding schools

Of course, it also develops the discipline of study implemented in this type of school.

More extracurricular activities

The fact of having a wide range of extracurricular activities, coupled with the possibility of always staying in contact with the teaching staff of the institution, makes the child end up getting used to increasingly value all kinds of effort, in addition to developing to the maximum both his intellectual and physical abilities.

Disdvantages of boarding schools

Before anything else, it is important to be very clear that a boarding school for children is not a “punishment” or much less, but one of several options that exist for a child to study.

One of the most notorious differences of a boarding school compared to conventional schools, is precisely that as its name indicates that those who attend it remain internal, that is, without leaving the place to conclude their studies.

Is this good or bad? As everything in life has its pros and cons, but then we tell you what the three main disadvantages of a boarding school for children:

The price

One of the first disadvantages that one finds when looking for a boarding school for children, without a doubt is the price. The high price that most of the internees have (if not all) makes that, for the great majority of parents , not even be a real option for their children when looking for a school.

If this is not your case and the cost is not a problem for you, there are other disadvantages that you should keep in mind at all times.

Being homesick

And everything that entails. While it is true that children who are educated in a professional boarding school is almost guaranteed to have an academic education of excellence, you cannot leave aside that most of the time lives outside the family environment.

Under these circumstances, it is common for children to have strong emotional problems and great family uprooting, all thinking that they are not a loved child, and perhaps even hated by their parents, even if it is not the case.

It does not work as a punishment

How many times have we not listened to a father, be it in real life or on television telling his son that if he continues to behave badly he will take him to a boarding school, as if it were a punishment?

As much as a child is “conflictive” , a boarding school will not improve his behavior, but on the contrary it will end up making it worse. This type of child not only need to receive a good education, but also (and very important) all the possible love that parents can give them.

Academic stress

For the students living in a boarding it feeling like learning is a full time job especially if the curriculum is not flexible.
